Recommended Air Conditioner Temperatures

  • Wednesday, 14th February, 2018

PICTURE THIS:

It’s summer, it’s a balmy 30°C outside and you’re melting. What do you do?

Turn on the air conditioning to a cool 18°C? NO!

This forces the unit to work to its extreme. It has to work extra hard to reach this temperature and work for a longer time to maintain it. This results in drawing excessive amounts of power and consequently we get expensive power bills.

But what about in Winter?

It’s cold outside with a top of 15°C. What temperature do you set your air conditioner?

25°C? NO!

Again, this makes the air conditioner work in extremes. Working extra hard and costing you more money.

We recommend running your air conditioner at 24°C during the summer months, and 20°C in the winter. These temperatures are comparative to outside temperatures and avoid having your air conditioning system working harder to maintain temperature. This ensures maximum energy efficiency from your unit.

Fact: every one degree warmer in winter, or cooler in summer, increases energy consumption by approximately 5-10%.

The harder your air conditioner has to work, the more electricity it will consume. So of course, the easier you make it for your unit, the more efficiently it will run.
