Where is the best place to install a split system air conditioner?

  • Wednesday, 25th September, 2019

Summer is fast approaching, and if you’re looking to get a split system installed, you’ll need to consider the best place to put the air conditioner units.

The outdoor unit

One of the first things to assess when planning your air conditioner installation is placing the external part of the unit in an area that doesn’t receive a lot of direct sunlight. This is because the more sun your air conditioner receives, the harder it will have to work to maintain optimal cooling, and further the more electricity it will have to use.

The best placement is either a north or south facing wall, and the worst place is on an east or west facing wall. Additionally, it is smart to observe how the sun hits your house during the summer to determine where is the best spot.

The indoor unit

Though the sun needs to be considered for the outdoor unit, internal positioning is just as important.

Which rooms do you need the air conditioner to work in? Which rooms does it need to be the most effective? Most people want the air conditioner to work best in the living area, though many want the whole house to be covered.

The area to be covered will be determined by the size and strength of the air conditioning unit. If your unit isn’t the strongest, it should be put in a room that you wish to be cooled. If it can cover the entire house, it can be put in a central location and further controlled by using the doors throughout the home.
